I was recently sent a copy of Kelly Hoppen’s latest book, House of Hoppen: A Retrospective. The book was published to celebrate the astonishing 40 year career of Kelly and to look back at some of the iconic projects, some well known and some not, some seen before and some hot off the press!
What I loved most about the book is that it includes images and information that you really want to know from Kelly. It’s filled with an abundance of useful ideas, tips and tricks and of course the most beautiful imagery to swoon over and inspire you.
The book goes into a lot of detail about Kelly’s signature look and how to achieve it. Kelly is well known for the East Meets West movement and the book uncovers the design elements that Kelly uses to achieve this trademark look. Balance and harmony are very important elements to Kelly and she uses specific numbers to help build and style spaces.
Besides giving us an insight into the signature style, the book touches on Kelly’s favourite colours, chair designs, wall treatments and even cushions. I think this is something that everyone wants to know from the world’s best interior designers and not often does an interior design book touch on such intricate details and essentially their trade secrets.
I also thoroughly enjoyed reading the interview with Elle Decoration UK editor Michelle Ogundehin, which can be found right at the beginning of the book. Interviews are a great way to introduce someone and give an insight into their personality and honour them on an occasion such as the 40th year of an astonishing career.
The book really is a great way of defining Kelly’s career and designs and this is a book I will reference and and go back to time and time again as it really is filled with great information (it could almost be used as a textbook in parts) and ideas as well as just being a beautiful book filled with inspirational imagery.
I’m also excited to announce that I will be giving away two House of Hoppen books to my readers and followers on Instagram.
