The levitating planter by FLYTE

3rd October 2017

With all the advances in technology and the gadget-driven world we now live in, it was only a matter of time before someone came up with a ‘levitating’ plant pot. Step in FLYTE – a Swedish brand who specialise in such products. Want a floating lightbulb that’ll last for 50,000 hours? No problem, they’ve got you covered. Of course, being of Swedish origin, it’s no surprise that all of their products are presented in an undeniably Scandinavian minimalistic manner. But there’s a clear identifiable style that’s present with all of FLYTE’s products.

FLYTE very kindly sent us their LYFE Planter which we now have elegantly spinning away on our central office desk. We can’t deny, it’s a pretty cool piece of kit and it works exactly as you’d hope. Predominantly, but not exclusively, designed for air plants which extract their moisture and nutrients from the air, the LYFE planter uses a series of magnets to gently suspend the planter a few centimetres above it’s ‘quarter-sawn oak base’. Once you spin it, it’ll keep going for ages and, according to FLYTE, will continue ‘nourishing life with 360 degrees of sunlight exposure, 365 days a year’.

Moulded from silicon, the 12-sided geodesic form ‘reflects several different shades of light’ as it gracefully rotates, creating a ‘mesmerising effect’. There’s a clever little reservoir at the base of the planter which collects any unwanted water, should you decide to use a soil-based plant. FLYTE claim that the magnetic fields ‘accelerate the ripening of certain fruits, enhancing your plants metabolism’. There is some truth to this, with research suggesting that magnetic fields can indeed provide a beneficial aid to your botanical buddies.

All in all, it’s a great little piece that serves as a visually intriguing feature, whilst proving to anyone who walks in that you’re not from the stone-age and are in fact in touch with the ever-changing world of today’s tech. Thank you FLYTE!
