I’m absolutely thrilled to be starting off my new ‘Interior Design Interview Series‘ with these two chaps. Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead are interior designers based in south London. Their design studio is called 2 Lovely Gays.
Many of you will know the 2 Lovely Gays from Jordan’s appearance on the Great Interior Design Challenge a couple of years ago. These busy designers took some time out of their hectic schedule for my interview.
What is your design signature/style?
We often get asked this… Our signature style is people. We love people and are strong believers that your home should reflect you and not follow trends or phases. That said….people always pick up on our bold use of colour and pattern. We love a bit of colour!
What type of people do you love to work with as clients?
As above, we love people and that means all kinds of people. A lot of our clients tend to be creatives in their own right. From actors to artists, designers and restaurateurs. I think people have it hard at the moment as they are surrounded by design stimulus…its everywhere…magazines pinterest, social media… It can be hard to pin down what it is you really want (excuse the pinterest pun).
Can you tell us about a particularly exciting/challenging project?
We tend to fall in love with every new project we take on. We think you have to! Working within Interior design in London specifically, throws up so many problems to solve. People are time poor and often have small spaces that need to function well. We love these kind off challenges… saying that its also great to be working on a 4 storey Georgian town house. We like to tell stories with our interiors and create spaces for growth and happiness!
Does your home reflect your professional style?
It will reflect our PERSONAL style. We are renovating so its all bare brick and plaster at the moment but it will strongly reflect us in every sense. Our home is our muse!
What’s next for your business/brand?
So Much…we are renovating our own house which is set to be a huge showcase of our work and new designers that we are collaborating with. You can find us in the Gay Times and also the Metro House doctor pages. We also have a few more things in the pipeline but its all bit hush hush at the moment… more on this as soon as we can tell!
Which designers do you currently have your eye on?
There are so many and we love working with new talent. We really love Peckham based duo Jemma and Nathan ‘Custhom’ their wallpapers are amazing. we are also currently crushing on designer/artist James M Shaw’s work. we spotted him on instagram a while back and it was great to see him showing at TENT this year.
If someone reading this was about to begin their own home redesign project, what would be your best advice to them?
Hire an interior designer…no but seriously, make sure you are thinking about what you really want. Creating your home should be enjoyable and personal. Make a space that truly reflects you!
You can get in touch with Jordan and Russell through their studio 2 Lovely Gays.
