Once a year, KLC School of Design put on the Graduate Exhibition show. Students are asked to exhibit their final projects. I was invited along to the Private View evening to take a look at what their very talented design students had produced and learn more about the school.
The exhibition is divided up into the 3 major Interior Design courses offered at KLC:
- Blended Learning Diploma in Interior Design
- Full Time Diploma in Interior Design
- BA (HONS) Interior Design
I spent most of the evening chatting to students from all levels of the courses. Many said that studying at KLC was very challenging and time consuming, but loved the courses and felt that they had managed to master new skills and extend themselves way beyond what they thought they were capable of. What was very noticeable, was that each student that I spoke to, came across as a true design professional. Explaining their brief and concepts to me in detail and pointing out each of their unique solutions for their ‘client’. Clearly, KLC School does more than just teach design, they instil a high level professionalism too.
Another interesting point that I noticed was that many students were 30+. People who have had successful careers in finance, marketing or law, that were looking for a new creative career. In my opinion, they will be the interior design mavens of the future, being creative is great, but couple that with commercial skills, and you have a very powerful skillset.
KLC have an exciting new course that starts in September, it’s an online Foundation Degree in Interior Design. This will enable aspiring interior designers, anywhere in the world to access this world renowned institution. I’m looking forward to hearing more about the first intake of students, I think this will be fascinating to have students from all over the world come together and study design.
